The Milesight LoRa sensors are wireless sensors designed to support smart workplace management by providing reliable occupancy and environmental monitoring.
The sensor supports the following measurements:
- Occupancy – Detects whether the monitored area is occupied.
- People Counting – Measures the number of people detected within the area.
- Temperature – Measures the ambient temperature.
- Humidity – Measures the relative humidity level.
In this article, you will find information about commissioning, installation, and the technical specifications of the Milesight LoRa sensors.
1.Installation
Follow the steps below to install the batteries in the Milesight sensor.
Installation
- 1 Open the battery cover
The battery cover can be opened by gently pulling the Access Pull Tab in the direction shown in ①.
After the first use, the Access Pull Tab can be removed or left in place depending on your preference. If the tab has been removed and the battery cover needs to be opened again, gently open the cover with your finger in the direction shown in ②.
1.2 Remove the battery holder
Remove the Battery Retention Latch and tilt the device in the direction shown in ①. The battery holder will slide out smoothly.
1.3 Install the batteries
Remove the batteries from the packaging and insert them into the battery holder. Make sure the batteries are installed according to the polarity markings (+/-) indicated on the battery slot.
1.4 Secure the batteries
Place the battery holder with the installed batteries back into the device. Reset the Battery Retention Latch in the direction shown in ② to secure the batteries and prevent them from moving.
Close the battery cover to complete the installation.
1.5 Verify power
Short press the multi-function button. If the green LED lights up, the device has been powered on successfully.
2. Bluetooth configuration
Before commissioning the Milesight LoRa sensor, configure the device using the Milesight ToolBox app.

2.1 Install the Milesight ToolBox app
Download and install the Milesight ToolBox app on a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone.
2.2 Enable Bluetooth and Location
Enable Bluetooth and Location Services on your smartphone to allow the app to discover nearby devices.
2.3 Connect to the sensor
- Open the Milesight ToolBox app and switch the reading mode to Bluetooth.
- Tap Bluetooth Read to search for nearby devices.
- Select the correct sensor from the list.
The default Bluetooth device name is VS321-XXXXXXX, where XXXXXXX corresponds to characters 5–11 of the device serial number.
Default Bluetooth password: 123456
When connecting for the first time, you will be prompted to create a new Bluetooth password. After the password has been set, the sensor information and configuration options will become available.
Note:
- The Bluetooth connection automatically disconnects after 3 minutes of inactivity. If this occurs, simply reconnect to the sensor.
- The sensor supports only one Bluetooth connection at a time. If a second smartphone connects, the existing connection with the first smartphone is automatically terminated.
2.4 Connect to the Milesight Sensor via Bluetooth
After the initial setup, tap the Bluetooth icon to search for nearby Milesight sensors. Once the scan is complete, select the correct sensor from the list to establish a connection.
2.5 Open the sensor settings
Once connected, tap the Settings icon to configure the sensor.
2.6 Configure the General settings
In the General tab, apply the following settings:
- Reporting Mode: From Now On
- Reporting Interval: 5 minutes
- Detection Function: People Counting
- Detection Mode: Auto
- Detection Interval: 5 minutes
- Detection Trigger Sensitivity: High
- Detection Region: Select Edit and ensure that one detection area is configured.
Note: GoBright currently supports one detection area per sensor.
When the configuration is complete, tap the Back arrow in the upper-left corner to save the General settings.
2.7 Configure the LoRaWAN settings
Open the Network tab and select LoRaWAN.
Verify that the following settings are configured:
- Join Type: OTAA
- Supported Frequency: EU868
- Spreading Factor: SF7 (DR5)
- TX Power: 0-16 dBm
Leave all other LoRaWAN settings at their factory default values.
2.8 Save the configuration
Tap Write at the bottom of the screen to apply the configuration to the sensor.
The sensor is now configured and ready to be commissioned in the GoBright environment.
3. Commissioning
Follow the steps below to commission the Milesight VS321-868M sensor in the GoBright environment.
Commissioning
3.1 Open the GoBright Mobile app and log in with an account that has Administrator rights. Navigate to: Settings → Admin tools (three stripes).
3.2 In Admin tools you can continue with the sensor commissioning process.
3.3 Select LoRa Sensors (beta)
3.4 Then select LoRa Sensors
3.5 Select the vendor Milesight
3.6 Select VS321 as the sensor type.
3.7 Remove the batteries from the sensor.
3.8 Press Next to continue.
3.9 Scan the QR code located on the sensor.
3.10 Select the room where the sensor will be installed.
3.11 Press Commission Sensor at the bottom of the screen.
3.12 Insert the batteries back into the sensor.
3.13 Press Done to complete the commissioning process.
The Milesight VS321-868M sensor is now commissioned and ready for use.
Commissioning Complete
After successful commissioning, the Milesight LoRa sensor will be visible in both the GoBright Mobile App and GoBright Portal.
The following steps explain how to locate the Advanced Gateway and what information is available about it.
GoBright Mobile App
Navigate to: Settings → Admin Tools → LoRa sensors (beta) → LoRa sensors
The device will be listed with the device type LoRa sensor.
In the GoBright mobile app you can see the following information:
- Device EUI
- Coupled room / desk / parking
GoBright Portal
Navigate to: Settings → Devices → Sensors
The device will be listed with the device type LoRa sensor.
In the GoBright portal, the following information is available for the commissioned LoRa Sensor:
- Coupled room / desk / parking
- Type
- Device EUI
Dimensions
- The illustration below shows the dimensions of the Milesight LoRa sensor, including its length, width, and height, to help you plan the installation.
Mounting
Follow the guidelines below to ensure optimal performance of the sensor mounting it on the ceiling.
The sensor must be installed on a ceiling with a minimum thickness of 3 cm. For optimal detection performance, the recommended installation height is above 2.2 m for sedentary targets and above 3 m for standing targets.
Recommended placement
To ensure accurate detection performance:
- Do not install the device too close to doors or mirrors, as this may affect detection accuracy.
- Ensure the device is mounted facing downward toward the detection area.
- Ensure the surrounding environment is sufficiently lit (>50 lux), while avoiding interference from bright light sources.
- Make sure the entire desired detection area is covered by the sensor.
Installation Position
Install the sensor so that the lens is positioned exactly in the center of the intended detection area.
For rectangular detection areas:
- Align the long side of the lens with the long side of the detection area.
- Align the short side of the lens with the short side of the detection area.
Covered Detection Area
Refer to the detection area diagram below to verify the recommended coverage and ensure the sensor is positioned correctly.

Battery life
The battery life of the sensor depends on the reporting interval and operating conditions. The expected battery performance is:
- Light usage: Up to 13 years of battery life
Reporting every 10 minutes, 8 hours per day - Normal usage: Up to 10 years of battery life
Reporting every 5 minutes, 8 hours per day - Extreme usage: Up to 7 years of battery life
Reporting every 5 minutes, 12 hours per day
Button and LED indicators
The button and LED indicators provide visual feedback and allow interaction with the sensor during setup, configuration, and operation. The LED status indicates the current state of the device, while the button can be used to perform specific actions.
