Elsys EMS Desk LoRa sensors - Commissioning and technical details

The Elsys EMS Desk LoRa sensor enables automatic desk occupancy detection, providing accurate, real-time availability information to support flexible and efficient workplace management.

This article provides everything you need to get started with the Elsys EMS Desk LoRa sensor. It includes an overview of the sensor's technical specifications, installation instructions, and key information to help you install and configure the device correctly for reliable desk occupancy detection.

1. Installation

Follow the steps below to install the Elsys EMS Desk LoRa sensor:

Installation

1.1 Remove the back panel.

Use the Elsys removal tool to safely detach the back panel. If the tool is not available, carefully use a small screwdriver. Take care not to damage any internal components. Remove the blue tape.
 

1.2 Insert the battery.

The EMS sensor requires one 3.6 V Lithium AA battery (ER14505). Insert the battery according to the indicated polarity.
 

Important note: The NFC reader is under the blue tape. Do not remove the blue tape before commissioning the sensor otherwise will no longer be able to scan the NFC. 

1.3 Mount the back panel.

Secure the back panel to the desired surface using the supplied adhesive tape. Ensure the mounting surface is clean, dry, and free from dust for optimal adhesion.

1.4 Attach the sensor.

Align the sensor with the mounted back panel and press it firmly into place until it is securely attached.

2. Commissioning

Follow the steps below to commission the Elsys EMS Desk LoRa sensor and connect it to a desk in the GoBright environment.

Commissioning

2.1 Open the GoBright Mobile app and log in with an account that has Administrator rights. Navigate to: Settings → Admin tools (three stripes).

2.2 In Admin tools you can continue with the sensor commissioning process. 

2.3 Select LoRa Sensors (beta)

2.4 Then select LoRa Sensors

2.5 Select the vendor

2.6 It will lead you to the Scan NFC page

2.7 Hold the NFC area of your phone against the side or back of the sensor until the NFC scan is completed.

2.8 Select the room to which the sensor should be commissioned using the drop-down menu.

2.9 Select the desk from the list of desks.

2.11 You will find the Sensor ID linked to the selected desk. Press Commission Sensor at the bottom of the screen.

2.12 Hold the NFC area of your phone against the side or back of the sensor again to program the device.

2.12 Your sensor is now commissioned.

Commissioning Complete

After successful commissioning, the Elsys LoRa sensor will be visible in both the GoBright Mobile App and GoBright Portal. 

The following steps explain how to locate the Advanced Gateway and what information is available about it.

Navigate to: Settings → Admin Tools → LoRa sensors (beta) → LoRa sensors

he device will be listed with the device type LoRa sensor.

In the GoBright mobile app you can see an overview of your LoRa sensors, and the following information for each of them:  

  • Device EUI
  • Coupled room / desk / parking

Navigate to: Settings → Devices → Sensors

The device will be listed with the device type LoRa sensor.

In the GoBright portal, the following information is available for the commissioned LoRa Sensor:

  • Coupled room / desk / parking
  • Type
  • Device EUI

Dimensions

The illustration below shows the dimensions of the Elsys EMS Desk LoRa sensor, including its length, width, and height, to help you plan the installation.

Mounting

The integrated infrared (IR) occupancy sensor detects desk occupancy by measuring changes in temperature within its detection area. When a person is present, the sensor identifies the temperature difference and reports the desk as occupied.

For optimal occupancy detection, mount the sensor underneath the desk, 10–20 cm from the front edge. Position the sensor so that the opening is facing the person using the desk.

The integrated IR sensor detects occupancy within a range of up to 50 cm and has a 60° field of view in both the horizontal and vertical directions.

After installation, the sensor requires time to calibrate to its new environment and establish the correct baseline for occupancy detection. For best results, leave the sensor to calibrate overnight before using it.

To ensure reliable detection:

  • Do not mount the sensor near heat sources, such as radiators.

  • Avoid placing it close to air vents or areas with strong airflow.

  • Ensure the sensor has a clear view of the user and is not obstructed by objects.

Battery life

The Elsys EMS Desk LoRa sensor is designed for long-term, low-maintenance operation. Under normal operating conditions, the expected battery life is at least 5 years, and can last up to 10 years, depending on the sensor configuration, reporting frequency, and environmental conditions.

Important: Only use the recommended battery type. Using a different battery may reduce performance and battery life or damage the device. Dispose of used batteries in accordance with local environmental regulations.

LED Indications

The LED indicator provides visual feedback on the sensor's status and activity. The table below explains the different LED signals and their corresponding actions.
